WiMAX Development in Asia January 3-9

- Taiwanese WiMAX carrier Global Mobile launched WiMAX voice service on January 5, 2011 in Taiwan, according to the Commercial Times of Taiwan. It is reported that Global Mobile received government approval of voice applications in December 2010. With the release of the new service, Global Mobile aims to add 160,000 WiMAX subscribers by the end of 2011.

- Three WiMAX-related conferences will be held in Taiwan during January 2011, according to the Economic Daily News of Taiwan. The three conferences are "IEEE 802.16 Session #71", "2011 Taipei WiMAX Summit", and "WiMAX Forum Global Operator Summit".
